On 1st February, Health Focus formally inaugurated its project office. Special guests included representatives of the GIZ, the MCR (the Regional Coordinating Mechanism), SISCA (the Secretariat of Central American Social Integration), SE COMISCA (the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America), UNAIDS, WHO, the German Embassy, and REDCA+ (the Central American Network of Persons with HIV).
The Health Focus team in El Salvador, Ralf Syring and José Eliseo Orellana Orellana, were encouraged in their work by the support they received from key organisations and bodies in the regional response to HIV&AIDS. In particular, the GIZ director in El Salvador, Christof Küchemann, the president of the MCR, Dr Ana Isabel Nieto, the representative of SE-COMISCA, José Angel Recinos and the coordinator of REDCA+, Sergio Montealegre encouraged and supported the team in their respective speeches.
Health Focus is providing technical support to the MCR in Central America for the implementation of the regional HIV&AIDS strategic plan 2010-2015. The office is located in the building of SISCA and will be handed over to COMISCA after completion of its contract with GIZ.
