Psychosocial Support for Displaced Women in the Eastern Region 24.4061.8-001.00 in Burkina Faso (ProSPS)
Objective:
The objective of ProSPS is that the psychosocial well-being of internally displaced women and vulnerable members of host communities has improved in the Eastern Region of Burkina Faso. To achieve this, the project works through local NGOs and decentralized public services to improve access to community-based and person-centered psychosocial support services, while strengthening the social empowerment of displaced and host community women through a transformative gender approach.
Content: ProSPS implements activities in 3 outputs:
Output 1 aims to improve access for internally displaced women and vulnerable members of host communities to high-quality, gender-sensitive community-based psychosocial support.
Output 2 aims to improve access to person-centered psychosocial support for women experiencing severe psychological distress.
Output 3 aims to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of local organizations to empower internally displaced and host community women.
Health Focus is responsible for implementing the following tasks:
Output 1:
- Assess the specific needs of safe spaces to be designed or renovated in non-specialized public services and local organizations;
- Design layout plans complying with standards for safety, accessibility, protection, and confidentiality, incorporating areas dedicated to art therapy, restorative play, mother-child reception, and relaxation;
- Purchase furniture and equipment from local suppliers and ensure complete installation in each space;
- Conduct an initial inventory and develop a maintenance plan;
- Train staff on the use and maintenance of equipment.
Output 2:
- Identify specific challenges related to staff well-being in partner implementing organizations;
- Develop a "staff care" concept including measures for psychological support, burnout prevention, and stress management;
- Organize training sessions on stress management and psychological first aid for technical staff;
- Organize recreational activities for stress management for implementing organization staff;
- Develop and distribute information and awareness-raising materials on human rights, mental health, gender norms, and access to services.
Output 3:
- Conduct an assessment of gender norms and local practices affecting internally displaced women and men;
- Develop a manual for implementing a gender-responsive approach tailored to the realities of internally displaced persons;
- Design a training module on the transformative gender approach (TGA) and facilitate training sessions for partner organization staff;
- Design, produce, and distribute communication materials on TGA in local languages;
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation sessions and draft analysis reports documenting best practices and lessons learned.
