Pro-Enfant Programme - Implementation of children's rights in Burkina Faso, Component 3: Strengthening the capacities of civil society actors to protect children against violence

Objectives:

In the six intervention municipalities of the project, state and civil society actors are better protecting children from violence, in particular from gender-based violence, child trafficking and the worst forms of child labour.

Content:

Health Focus and its partner Maestral are responsible for implementing field of activity 3 of this 2nd phase of the PRO-Enfant Programme through:

  • Carrying out education, awareness-raising and communication activities regarding child rights and the protection of girls and boys against violence, including gender-based violence (awareness-raising on harmful traditional practices, such as female genital mutilation and child marriage);
  • Capacity building of civil society organisations aiming at participatory and gender-sensitive communication methods;
  • Test of low threshold methods for the participation of children and young people in municipal decisions that affect them;
  • Strengthening girls' participation and promoting gender equality.
  • Selection, mobilization and provision of national and international long- and short-term experts and support staff;
  • Technical support to the Ministry of Women, National Solidarity, Family and Humanitarian Action and its structures at the regional, provincial and community levels;
  • Implementation of activities in close collaboration with key stakeholders and partner institutions (e.g. design and implementation of situation analyses, workshops and training, development and production of IEC/BCC material);
  • Project administration, monitoring and evaluation in accordance with GIZ instruments (including management of local subsidiaries),
  • Management of a project office;
  • Coordination with GIZ ;
  • Technical support/quality assurance of project deliverables;
  • Active contribution to the GIZ’s knowledge management (collating project experience and best practice examples);
  • Regular reporting to the client and partners.

Activities focus mainly on awareness-raising through mass media (local radio), educational talks, parent education approaches, awareness-raising on children's rights for civil society organizations, child protection networks, local councils, community leaders, associations of "teaching mothers" and parent associations as well as traditional authorities
