Development of eLearning CPD modules for SRHR service Providers

Objective: To develop eLearning Continuous Professional Development (CPD) modules for SRHR service providers, enhancing the skills of frontline health workers for improved SRHR service delivery.

Specific objectives:

  • To assess and customize training materials: evaluate and adapt existing training materials in patient-centred/respectful care, gender-sensitive and human rights-based service provision, and Youth Friendly Health Services (YFSH) to the local SRHR context.
  • To evaluate and recommend CPD platforms: assess the functionality of current online CPD platforms in Malawi's health sector and recommend the most suitable one.
  • To identify effective CPD delivery models: determine the most effective CPD delivery models for the target districts.
  • To develop interactive learning content: create learning content on the specified topics using interactive methods for effective knowledge transfer.
  • To digitize and visualize content: convert the developed content into a digital format with integrated interactive training tools to enhance engagement.
  • To incorporate advanced features: add features like learning analytics, progress tracking, time limits, and mandatory completion requirements to the modules.
  • To upload modules onto CPD Platform: Incorporate tailored modules into the digital CPD platform.
  • To test and build capacity: Test, roll out, and build capacity for local facilitators to support health care workers to undertake the online CPD courses
  • Output 1: To improve the capacities of health professionals at the primary and secondary levels of care to address the specific SRHR needs of users with and without disabilities
  • Output 2: To improve the skills of managers to strengthen the quality and accountability of SRHR services in terms of leadership and management
  • Comprehensive collection and analysis of relevant training materials (global, regional and national, online and f2f): collect and analyze available materials in the areas of YFHS, patient-centred/ respectful care and gender-sensitive and human rights-based service provision with a special emphasis on inclusivity and ethics in SRH-care in Malawi
  • Assessment of existing CPD platforms functionality in the Malawian health sector: map the three existing platforms, their contens and functionalities; assess CPD platforms outside Malawi (incl. atingi); recommend the most suitable platform taking into consideration the policy guidance of MoH towards a harmonized CPD approach
  • Development of interactive learning content: develop training content that is tailored to the Malawian context respecting the regulator’s guidelines and aligned to global best practices and research; integrate action-oriented and engaging (adult) learning methods
  • Validation of training contents and creation of CPD modules: consultative validation process with all stakeholders to create CPD modules tailored towards the identified CPD platform and aligned with its functionality
  • Digitize CPD modules
  • Support further development of the chosen CPD platform (e.g. to allow functionalities required above such as tracking of health workers who have completed trainings, log ins and adding interactive features and test questionnaire results)
  • Local capacity building to use appraised CPD platform: develop a training plan incl. follow-up mentorship, training of GIZ project and MoH personnel to become facilitators (use and support uptake of platform)

Content:

The "Malawi German Health Programme IV" (MGHP) is a three-year project to strengthen the health system in Malawi with a focus on reproductive health. It supports the MoH and district administrations in Mchinji, Lilongwe, Dedza and Ntcheu in improving the planning, coordination and quality of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services with a strong emphasis on gender-transformative and human rights-based approaches. The project has two outputs:

Health Focus is responsible for implementing the following tasks in close consultation with relevant MoH departments such as Human Resource, Reproductive Health and Quality Management including the Digital Health Division (DHD), the Ministry of Gender as well as the District Health Offices and the Health Profession regulatory bodies.
