Mass Media Campaign for Increasing Community Awareness on Maternal and Neonatal Health Issues

Objectives:

Through a high-profile public information and education campaign involving the mass media and other communication channels, to increase awareness on the prevention of maternal and neonatal mortalities and to provide intensive information on the prevention and maternal and neonatal mortalities in selected provinces.

Specific objectives:

  • To provide information and messages aiming at creating behaviour change on maternal and neonatal health issues to women of childbearing age (15-49) – with a particular emphasis on women in rural areas, with lower educational attainment or socio-economic status and in provinces with low utilisation rates – to raise their awareness of such issues and increase appropriate use of services.
  • To provide information and messages aiming at creating behaviour change to family members of such women, community leaders and others who may have an influence on or role in raising their awareness of maternal and neonatal health issues and their use of health services.
  • To conduct communication activities in order to raise awareness and motivation of health staff and managers.

Content:

The project is embedded in the overall Reproductive Health Programme (RHP) jointly established by the Government of Turkey and the European Union (EU). It is to prepare, implement and evaluate a public information and education campaign to increase awareness of maternal and neonatal health issues and to increase appropriate utilisation of maternal and child health services available.
