Study succesfully completed: Minimum packages of Occupational Health Services to be provided to mineworkers in South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Aquity Innovations received a grant from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to support the South Africa Knowledge Hub Pilot: Combating TB in the mining sector in Southern Africa. Within the context of grant implementation, Health Focus was commissioned to conduct a study aiming to establish minimum occupational health service packages that can be offered to mineworkers and ex-mineworkers in the above mentioned countries.

In order to gain a broader understanding of occupational health legal and institutional frameworks in the Southern Africa sub-region and derive suitable service packages and delivery models from these, country system reviews were implemented in South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Furthermore, actual conformity of practices with OHS regulations and standards issued by mining, health or labour authorities were validated in field visits of large, medium and small scale mines within the respective countries. Review results were validated in in-country workshops. Based on the findings minimum occupational health service packages and delivery models were suggested and discussed during a final regional expert workshop.
